Sustainable Shoe Design
Design Major Project
The project scope involves designing shoe wear sustainably using my multidisciplinary design knowledge in Graphic and Textile fields. The footwear design emphasises the importance of reusing, recycling, repurposing, and remaking existing fast fashion waste, as a direct response to environmental decline. In response to real-world issues of mass textile consumption and disposal, the variety of textile experiments alludes to the breadth of possibilities when designing sustainable footwear.
ReShoe
The designs are unique to material availability and consciously take into consideration the clothing’s functional elements. By repurposing two shirt sleeves the buttons act as substitutes for shoelaces meaning the functionality of the sleeves translated into footwear. The designs are a transparent display to encourage discussion of decreasing textile waste creatively. The purpose of couture footwear is to inspire and prompt those within the fashion industry to change.
